Knowing where our food comes from, how it was grown and how it is processed for consumption has been important to Nita and Paul since the beginning. We started a small vegetable farm in Upstate New York in 2010. As our family grew, we quit selling our produce at farmers markets and focused on raising a healthy family, homeschooling our children, and living the homesteading lifestyle.We began raising chickens for meat five years ago and never looked back! We quickly learned that chicken math is real: we started with 15 in the brooder and by the end of that season, we had raised over 100 chickens on less than a quarter acre in the middle of a village in Central New York. (Silly as it was, there were no local regulations which would prevent us from doing so.)We moved to Kentucky in 2023 and now we have a little more space to pasture raise our flock properly. We are also glad to finally have the room to raise our own turkeys! Our girls are all very helpful and love to help caring for the birds, tending the garden, canning and baking with Mom in the kitchen.
